Space of Time

Galan Trio with Guests

Space of Time was written for the Galan Trio augmented by double bass, percussion, and eight-channel electronics. The work explores the perceptual qualities of time and their relationship to space: how do we experience time in the present, in memory, or in dreams, and how does our sense of space shift with these different states?

Musical gestures alternate between relentless motion, resonant echoes, and suspended textures. The eight-channel electronics expand the ensemble into a shifting spatial environment, stretching, fracturing, and dispersing musical time throughout the performance space. As temporal certainty dissolves into dreamlike ambiguity, the music ultimately returns to an inexorable sense of forward motion.
